Let the Rain

Today, I woke up completely energized and felt like I could run a marathon. (Ha.)

I ate my favorite breakfast (oats with peanut butter and dark chocolate chips) and decided that I was going to go for a run. Well, I decided that last night, but my body and mind had the same decision for once. So I got dressed, put my water on my car, turned on Sara Bareilles, and started walking. It was kind of drizzling, which was fine by me. The cold water hitting my face helped me stay energized. I walked one mile as a warm up, and began running for the second mile.

It started raining.

Alright, I can run in the rain. I continued running, feeling great and all that. I was halfway done when it started pouring. I mean, buckets of rain.

Okay. So, here I am in the middle of nowhere on a country road halfway home. I had two choices.

A) Continue running and risk water damage to my phone and my fitbit. And run the risk of slipping on the sand stuff that’s on the road.

or

B) Run home as fast as I can.

I chose the second option. I stuffed my phone and armband under my shirt and ran as fast as my legs (and lungs) would allow me to go. I opted to go backwards rather than forwards because there was a huge hill I would have to run up, and the way back was much leveler than the way forward.

Coincidentally, one of my favorite Sara Bareilles songs started playing. The title?

Let the Rain.

I laughed about that for a good second.

Thankfully, my armband kept my phone dry.

OH YEAH. I got a new phone case that I absolutely LOVE, and it fits so much better in my armband!

My favorite Disney princess. This was a late birthday gift from my mom. What a gem.

Anyways. I took a shower, and now I’m just chilling before I have to get ready to go to work.

Oh, look what have returned as well.

Casually icing my shins so they won’t hurt as bad.

And eating lunch.

Coffee protein shake. And look at Big Blue in the back. He wants love too. I’m convinced that water bottle is indestructible. I’ve put him through so much.

Anyways. My protein shake. One of my FAVORITE things about work is we have created many milkshake varieties. Chocolate covered strawberry, chocolate covered bananas when we had the banana pudding shake. Well, one of our managers would make coffee shakes when he worked there. It’s coffee, oreos, a pump of chocolate and ice cream. When he left, a few of us learned how to make them. And I decided to “healthify” the shake. Here’s the recipe.

Coffee Protein Shake:

  • 1/2 Cup non-fat/low-fat cottage cheese
  • One scoop protein powder
  • Ice
  • Sweetener to taste (I used three packets NuNaturals Stevia)
  • 1/2 Cup Coffee
  • Splash of chocolate milk (or any milk, but for a mocha-y taste I used chocolate milk)
  • 1/4 to 1/2 cup of water (depending on how thick you want it)
  • Oreo Crumbs (either 1/2 bag of those 100 calorie Oreo things or real, up to you.)

Here’s how I layer mine in the blender. I do cottage cheese, ice, protein powder, stevia, then liquid. And then I blend that all together, add 1/2 of the Oreo crumbs, blend again, add the rest of the crumbs, blend again, then pour in a glass. I then top with whipped cream.

Adapted from here.

Nutrition wise, it’s about 250 calories, and about 35 grams of protein. It makes a HUGE shake. My blender says about five cups. I’m all for volume. I recommend adding Xanthan gum, it makes it thicker, but I keep forgetting to buy it. So none of that for me.

My shipment of VitaTops came in today. I now have 36. I’m ridiculously excited, and I’m probably going to try a PB chip one tonight after work. I’m so excited.

I get way too excited about food sometimes. That’s not necessarily bad now is it?

I’m not even going to answer that.
